It was being done as a partnership between Ankama in france and the studio they had signed/opened in Japan that was apparently called Ankama Japan. The film was to be titled Welsh & Shedar. But french anime? French anime is life.Īs a side note for others to feel my pain, I urge you to check this trailer of what could have been for another film set in the Dofus universe that would have been a few years after this film. It isn't going to blow doors down but it's very enjoyable and if you are ever bored and have 2 hours to spare why not give it a try? You can find it on Steam in the West and rent it for like 4 bucks, what is there to lose if all anime is trash.

We've been seeing a lot of card games getting tv shows and films in Japan, why not MMO titles? lol. The world outside of its designs entirely revolves around the idea of dragons and their power which I guess is what makes it stand out from other fantasy but it isn't particularly original or creative just well executed enough to base shows and film around it. All you really need to know to watch this is that an orphan lives with his adoptive father, a former hero, in a fantasy setting with all kinds of magic and creatures. I'll assume traditional animation tools, because Wakfu has specific visual hints to everything about it that it's done with Flash.Ĭlick to expand.As far as enjoyment, I think this might be the one to recommend to people if they wanted to check out something from the studio without being too involved in the universe or jumping into either Wakfu or Dofus as a whole as it's a bit of investment. I can't find information on whether this was done in Flash or with traditional animation. The fight scenes and scenery were superb. Visually this is hands down the most impressive piece of animation that Studio Ankama has produced. A character whose design I loved when I first saw him. I thought it would star Kerub once again with Joris as a secondary character, but to my delight and surprise it stars Joris. It deals with the return of Julith, aka 'The Butcher', an all powerful guardian of one of the dofus on her mission (that's a secret! But i'll never tell~). But one day, when he seeks out his idol, a Gobbowl superstar, everything changes for the worst as Julith, the vengeful witch, is. Our hero is leading a happy life in his magic shop in the city of Bonta. However, she wasn’t such a great student, and the pressure of becoming a great leader made her turn. As the years went by, she trained to become just like her brother. His name is Joris and he's proposing to take you on a fantastic adventure. Since, like most everyone in Bonta, she thought Julith was the one who caused the Ebony Dofus to go berserk, which in turn, caused Jahash’s death when he sacrificed himself.

Studio Ankama, same studio that makes the games, the Wakfu and Dofus tv series and this film really are like the top dog of French animation.īook I: Julith is the film that takes place a few years after the tv series. The strange little guy in the blue hood is well known to Krosmoz. I first discovered this whole universe when somebody in Offtopic posted in the 'Badass western animation' thread on GAF with a video of one of the battles in the film.
The TV series looks like it'd be a gorgeous television show for kids to watch and laugh and eat les poissons les poissons as they watch the adventures of le petit meow meow. I started watching that but lost interest because I don't really care to watch 52 episodes of adventures that had little relevance to much besides expanding on past adventures of characters I didn't even know, all with a humorous tone to them. There is a tv series that is essentially a highly episodic group of 52 episodes (Each 13 minutes) where Kerub (the old cat) tells his adoptive son of various adventures in his youth in their treasure store.
